Aimé Césaire Poems

Aimé Césaire was a French poet, politician, and one of the founders of négritude movement in Francophone literature. His work often mixed poetry and prose, especially in his 1947 collection, Cahier d’un retour au pays natal. He spoke about the cultural identity of black Africans and colonialism. In 1945, he was elected mayor of Fort-de-France and deputy to the French National Assembly for Martinique. He died at 94 years old in 2008 in Martinique, France.
