Jimmie Cox was an American songwriter and vaudeville performer. He is best known for his song, “Nobody Knows When You’re Down and Out.” It was written in 1923 and was made famous by other singers like Bessie Smith and Eric Clapton. Other artists have covered the song like Janis Joplin and Emmy Rossum.
