Jimmy Santiago Baca is an American poet. His youth was tumultuous and included time in prison in the 1970s for drug charges. It was there that he first started writing poetry. His first book was semi-autobiographical titled Martin and Meditations on the South Valley. He also published essays and a screenplay.
