Lucie Brock-Broido was an American poet, born in Pittsburgh. She taught at universities like Columbia, Harvard, and Princeton and received numerous fellowships throughout her career. When speaking about writing poetry she said: “a poem is troubled into its making. It’s not a thing that blooms; it’s a thing that wounds.”
‘Am Moor’ is a complex poem about identity, depicted through a wide range of juxtaposed images and states of being.
‘Dove, Interrupted’ is a poem consisting of complex emotions and a heightened sense of being. Though the self seems “opaque”, Brock-Broido presents it translucently.
