Lucy Terry Price Poems

Lucy Terry Price was an early American settler and poet who was kidnapped and enslaved in Rhode Island in 1730. Her husband purchased her freedom and she wrote ‘Bar Fight,’ a ballad, in 1746. It was published in 1855 after being remembered orally for more than 100 years. The poem details an attack on white families by Native Americans.
