Mary Mapes Dodge Poems

Mary Mapes Dodge (1831-1905) was an American children’s author and editor. Widowed at 28, she turned to writing to support her sons. Her renowned work “Hans Brinker; or, The Silver Skates” won acclaim and awards. As editor of St. Nicholas Magazine, she featured notable authors. Her poems and stories offered gentle moral lessons in playful verse. She died in Onteora Park, New York, leaving a lasting legacy in children’s literature.
