As a website that has analyzed thousands and thousands of poems, we read a wide range of poetry. In actual fact, the majority of the poems we analyze are not from famous poets, such as Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Frost, and so on, but by people with a genuine passion for writing incredible poetry.
In the modern era, it can seem quite daunting starting out writing poetry. However, take it from the experts that there has never been a better time to get into poetry. In actual fact, we are seeing poetry become increasingly popular year on year.
Starting your very own poetry blog could never be easier. We have experts on hand, both in terms of poetry and website creation, which means you are in the best place to learn just how to do this. Here’s our step-by-step.
Step #1 Choose Your Website Hosting
To create a poetry blog to have all your poems on there, you need to have website hosting (on WordPress) – WordPress is, by far, the platform to run your website from.
There are many different hosts you can choose from. Ultimately, you want one that is:
- Fast
- Cheap
- Reliable
Poem Analysis has actually looked at many different hosts over the years, and we have come to the conclusion that the best WordPress hosting is Cloudways.
In fact, Poem Analysis runs completely on Cloudways, so you can be assured they are the best.
Step #2 Create a WordPress Website
Once you have created your account, the next step is to create a WordPress website. You can do this in Cloudways by:
- Adding a server (we recommend Digital Ocean as the best for cheap performance
- Select ‘WordPress’ as the application
- Choose your server/application name and server side
If you have any issues, Cloudways support are brilliant at assisting you the whole way.
Step #3 Buy a Domain Name
The next step, once you have created a WordPress website, is to have a domain that your website hosting points to. There are a multitude of websites that you can buy domains from, with an easy Google search. The biggest decision is what to call your domain.
- Don’t use numbers or hyphens. This does not give off as professional look.
- What is your poetry about? You might want to incorporate such words into your domain name.
- How about your name? Lots of poets prefer their domain name to be their name, or close to it.
Of the above, we recommend going having a domain name that is your name. All famous poets we analyze do exactly this.
We don’t have any recommendations for which company to go with when buying a domain name. We particularly like using GoDaddy to check if the domain name has been taken yet or not.
Step #4 Choose a Website Theme
How your website looks is very important to the message you want to convey in your poetry.
Luckily, WordPress comes with some free themes you can use, that are great for poetry.
