Sir Thomas Wyatt was an important English poet and translator born in 1503. His work was admired during his life and continues to be so long since his death. He is often credited with introducing the sonnet to English literature through his translations of the Italian poet, Petrarch, and through his own compositions. He died in October 1542, fifteen years before his first book of verse was printed.
