Vera May Brittain was a poet and a nurse. She is best known for her memoir Testament of Youth, published in 1933. Her first novel, The Dark Tide, was published in 1923 and created a scandal due to the way it represented the Oxford dons. She died in 1970 after an interesting and varied career.
